The NAOS Emerging Opportunities Company (ASX: NCC) recently celebrated its second year of operation. The Company was founded on 26 February 2013 as a means to provide shareholders with a niche exposure to Australian Emerging Companies (ASX ex-100) via a long/short portfolio structure.
NCC was the first Listed Investment Company to have launched in the Australian Listed Investment Company space after a number of years of no new entrants. Sebastian Evans, Chief Investment Officer for NAOS Asset Management, the appointed investment manager of NCC said ‘The structure of Listed Investment Companies is an appealing way to manage assets on behalf of shareholders due to the closed end nature of the vehicle. Having an asset base which is not affected by both inflows and redemptions allows us to focus on sourcing the very best investment opportunities for our shareholders across a full market cycle.’
NCC has delivered considerable success to its shareholders with the underlying investment portfolio returning approximately 54% in nominal returns since its inception. Shareholders have also been rewarded with an attractive, fully franked dividend yield of 6.22% since the Company’s inception. Following on from the Board of Directors commitment to paying fully franked dividends to shareholders on a six monthly basis, as long as it is prudent to do so, the Company recently declared a 2015 interim dividend of 3.25 cents per share, an increase of 18.18% from the previous comparable period.
Sebastian Evans, Director of NAOS Emerging Opportunities Company said: ‘We are very pleased to be able to share with our investors, and the market, another strong result for the Company. Our primary focus remains on providing investors with a niche investment product, one which capitalises on the significant long-term benefits of investing in Emerging Companies in a long/short structure whilst also providing an attractive, tax efficient, income stream. We look forward to continuing the success of the Company over the coming years.
