Richard Harris is an anaesthetist from South Australia and a expert scuba diver, along with his friend Craig Challen, he is also the 2019 joint Australian of the Year.
Richard and Craig are the heroes behind the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue. The requirement to dive for hours in the dark in challenging caves, sedate the stranded children and then guide them out to safety, was the only possible way to succeed, and a very slim possibly at that.
Richard and Craig’s unique medical and diving skill sets meant they were quite possibly the only people that could attempt this extensive and difficult rescue mission. All the while Richard was suffering tragedy in his personal life. An amazing interview with a well-deserved Australian of the Year.
